Alanya's cuisine, having hosted many civilizations and nourished by diverse cultures, offers a wide range of flavors. You can taste many dishes in Alanya such as Gülüklü Çorba (a type of soup), Öksüz Helvası (Orphan's Halva), Laba Dolması (Stuffed Lamb), Çiğirdik, S Pasta (S Pastry), Göleviz Yemeği (Taro Root Dish), Ülübü Piyazı (Cowpea Salad), and Tömeken Yoğurtlaması (a yoghurt-based dish).
Alanya has a typical Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. In this region, where winters often feel like summer, the effect of the summer heat is mitigated by a sea breeze that blows from the sea towards the land in the afternoons.
In ancient times, Alanya was sometimes referred to as Pamphylia and sometimes as Cilicia because it was located on the line between the two regions. In 1221, it came under Seljuk rule by Alaaddin Keykubad I, who undertook significant construction activities. The Seljuks used Alanya as a second capital and winter center, carrying out extensive development. In 1471, during the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmet (Mehmed the Conqueror), it was incorporated into the borders of the Ottoman Empire. Alanya, along with Tarsus, was connected to the province of Cyprus in 1571. In 1864, it became a sanjak (sub-province) of the Konya Vilayet. It was attached to Antalya in 1868 and became a district of this province in 1871.
